I enjoyed finding or creating movement for this assignment. This week helped me realize that so many things move and are interesting to observe.
All the photos below were slightly edited with Lightroom. I hope that the exposure of these photos is right considering that I edited them with my PC.
For this assignment, I wanted to capture new subjects. Elizabeth McChesney, ballet teacher on campus, generously allowed me to attend her class. These gracious ballet dancers were a pleasure to capture. The blurred motion of this photo adds elegance to their moves. The light of the gym was sufficient for my shots. I chose not to use a really slow shutter speed to be able to see the moves. The capture did not have much color so I chose to make it black and white for a more dramatic effect.
Blurred Ballet – 1/24/17, 10am, BYU-I campus – ISO 200 – F/11 – 0.4 Sec. – Canon T5 Rebel – Tripod.
For this next slow shutter speed shot, we had fun with sparklers! My husband was so sweet to be my subject here. We left our apartment completely dark and the only light for this image is the light of the sparklers. The shutter stayed open for 5 seconds to create this frame around his face.
Framed Angel – 1/23/17, 9pm, Rexburg, ID – ISO 200 – F/16 – 5sec. – Canon T5 Rebel – Tripod
For the next series of photo, I set up a small studio in my apartment and tried to capture the movement of the drink when a cube of sugar is dropped in it. The frozen motion is best showed in photo#2. I also used a wooden background to give it a cozy look. I didn’t add other accessories to keep the focus on the cup. It was a fun photo session. A lot of cleaning and trying again!
Cup Splash Phase #1-4 – 1/24/17, 7pm, Rexburg, ID – ISO 400 – F/4.5 – 1/320 sec. – spotlight above and bottom right + tripod
Driving by the golf course, I saw these cross-country skiers and I thought that they would be great subjects for a frozen motion picture. The snow brings so much light! I liked motion the path gives to the photo.
Cross-country Skiing – 1/24/16, 4pm, Rexburg, ID – ISO 200 – F/5.6 – 1/400 sec – Tripod
My sweet husband helped me again in my assignment! This jump from the swing in the snow was epic! I turned it black and white because of the lack of colors in the background.
